The campground meeting was held on Sunday. We had a great turn out and a few issues were mentioned that everyone needs to know about.
Some of our campers have noticed garbage being dumped i.e. over the edge down close to the water. No garbage is to be dumped anywhere on the property. All garbage needs to go to the dump. Composting/leaves and grass clippings are not garbage. the dump hours are posted in the Rec Hall, but you must use clear plastic bags and recycle for the Portland dump.
Speed on the roads and water were mentioned. Please make sure you drive 10 km/ph as soon as you are through the gate and please slow down before getting to the docks (for swimmer's and boat safety).
Anyone selling their trailers, on Moonlight Bay property, must OK it through Scott Pepper.
Proper procedures when calling authorities, is to make sure that one or all of the Peppers have been notified about the call. This is necessary for two reasons. First to make sure that the authorities will be able to get through the gate and second of all, if there are real concerns regarding safety etc. we need to know immediately so any necessary actions can be taken to protect our campers.
The matter of water testing was mentioned. Our water has been tested several times a season for years and has always excellent. If there is ever a concern we will notify all campers immediately.
Authorities from the health department were here on June 2nd, with a handout regarding raccoon rabies. The department is very concerned about this and informed us because of these concerns absolutely no pets were to be allowed of leashes and that no-one should feed (by hand) wild animals and that any animal acting in a peculiar manner should be reported. Please follow correct procedures by informing the person at the Rec Hall and if no-one there, at the house, so that only one person is reporting. This way we are sure that each incident is reported for sure and only reported once to avoid confusion.
The matter of assessing add-a-rooms is still ongoing. The Harris government is trying to pass legislation to make it legal to assess three walled structures. So each and every one of you should be calling your local MPP and should be writing Toronto etc. We have already called our member and we are getting the OPCA association involved in this issue. Remember, if you do nothing it means that you will be taxed for sure. Action on your part is no guarantee that is wouldn't happen but it will take longer to happen and if there is enough protest may be delayed for years.
We must have a signed contract for each seasonal camper on file. If you have not completed one, please do so immediately.
Our sincere sympathy Gilbert Bisson and his family, on the loss of his wife Lucy. We will all miss her.
Our weather this spring has been cooler and wetter than the last two years but according to the Ottawa Citizen this is all to change very soon. Then it is to be warmer than usual for the next couple of months.
